each cat-5 strand is 24awg - pretty thick for an IC cable. I use 32awg silver and am considering to try even thinner gauges.cat-5 is also pretty stiff and already braided when you pull it out of the jacket. That makes it hard to have it conform to a shape your IC design may require. Plus, teflon is great, air is better. It comes in handy for the braided speaker cable desgin, but for an IC, you can insulate each wire from the other by using many other methods that are better in terms of dielectrics than teflon caked onto the entire wire skin
