I very much appreciate the comments (some quite animated) made. I see that I failed to mention that this is a 10 amp fuse (for a subwoofer) which is likely to be more resistant to external heat than a smaller amperage fuse. I will indeed just try it since there is no penalty for trying, except that I will adjust my soldering iron to the lowest temperature setting that will get the soldering job done to limit the heat exposure to the fuse. I will post the results.Retsel
