I would stick with the rectifier tube for a number of reasons. Mostly because I think it sounds much better than solid state diodes. Also the unit is designed around it. So you have to mess around changing resistor values to get voltages back where they need to be as your voltage will be a good bit higher, but alas not high enough to consider choke input. The slow turn on feature of the 5AR4/GZ34 is another plus.Another option to consider for caps are motor run caps. They are large in size but offer great performance.
