Re: any power conditioner in 240V country?

Body of Message:

I use a 1500 VA balanced isolation transformer (floating) from www.audio-consulting.ch. I am very allergic to series devices in the power line (and elsewhere too BTW), because they cause various degrees of dynamic losses, grain, loss of air etc.
This one seems a) to be free of negative artefacts, provided the system is suitably set up, and b) is superb in its unveiled layers of musical colour and dynamic shadings be it towards low levels, be it towards high levels. The systems sounds *less* processed and somehow unchained.
This transformer is built like no other i know of, based on similar design ideas as the silver rock TVC, though it is in the price range of other isolation transformers. But most of the latter were never designed for audio, and / or with aural feedback in the design process. Believe me, this makes a difference!

I a friends system, the transformer 'made problems' first, no improvement, just a change of sound in his AvantGarde Trio based, super tweaked system. We then found out that the switching supplies in his horn subwoofers were doing mains nasties, which need a different approach with additional devices (sigh !). But provided these were leaved on the normal mains, the sound took a big jump forward.

As to the 240 V PowerPlants: These use a universal 240 / 120 V mains transformer, which feeds the necessary voltages for a standard 'power-planted'120 V AC output. This then is up-transformed to 240V.
This is IMO not a totally uncritical approach. This unit will sound certainly different than the straight 110 V one, and most probably for the worse. I would rewire my electronics for 110 V and use the (cheaper) 110 V version. Which BTW makes a nice but slightly over-engineered step down transformer for US gear... ;-)
The PP use hence one or two transformers and their 'sound' is part of the sonic equartion...

A *lot* of problems with varying sonic quality of systems goes back to mains problems and these have two very important facets (VIFs ;-).
They are caused a) by (switching) power supplies and dimmers asymmetrically loading the mains, or saturating transformers.
Or they are caused b) by the major problems of most power transformers in audio equipment to cope with these distortions.
