Re: new to SPEAKER BUILDING

Manish,

There's already been plenty of good suggestions but I'll toss in a few more.

1. Start off simple. Open up you existing speakers and study how they're assembled. Study the crossover. Start bookmarking and visiting the many DIY speaker sites on the net. Buy the "Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" by Vance Dickason. Study and ask questions. We were all newbies once.

2. If you have access to wood working shop you're
already ahead of the game. A decent table saw, drill, clamps, squares, etc. make cabinet work pleasent.

3. Don't try to re-invent the wheel to start. Use an existing speaker design (plenty on-line for free) to start.

4. Select a simple design (single driver or entry-level two-way) for your first project.

5. DIY speaker building can be done cheap or $$$$$$. Start w/ low-cost drivers, that way if you really mess up you haven't toasted drivers costing $$$$$. (BTW, if you really get hooked you'll have plenty of opportunity to toast $$$$$ drivers later on.)

6. (DIY rule-of-thumb) "you're better off building an exceptionally good box w/ decent drivers and a good crossover than using expensive drivers in a cheap box w/ cheap crossover parts."

Good luck and have fun
