They are used in medical, electronics, hydraulics applications where exceptional cleanliness must be maintained. Basically clean filtered air is slowly pumped into the rear of the workspace so that contaminated room air can never enter.
If you enclosed your equipment rack, even only on 5 sides (front open) then a small filtered air system could be designed to feed in at the rear and flowing out the front, keeping the salt away from your gear. If you enclosed the front too (sliding glass doors?) your air flow and filtration requirements would be quite negligable.Any decent air con engineers should be able to help you out.
I have a friend in the business in Melbourne who designs and supplies laminar flow workbenches, clean room filtration etc for laboratories and the like if you can't find anyone up your way.Cheers
