I hooked up 2 40 va trans to my tubed cdp and the results were quite slendid-more detailed vocals and more punch in the upper bass region. My concern is that without the trannies, the cdp pulls .2 amps and 118 v. With the trannies hooked up it pulls .16 amps and only 105 v. Will this hurt the cdp? Then I tried 2 65 va trannies, and it was back to .19 amps @ 112 v. The sound was no where near as good, in fact it was worse than without the trannies. The 120/24v 40 va trannies also got quite warm-the primary one especially. Next I am going to try the 65va powering the 40va and see how that goes. But, above all, it's the sound quality that matters. I am using a 1uf + .1uf across the secondaries. Thanks for any help/comments.
