Sandbags under the CDP: how to configure?

Greetings Inmates,

I’m trying various options for DIY isolation of my Sony C222ES. My first go was to set the CDP directly onto three homemade roller bearings (ball bearings, chrome drawer pulls embedded in poplar dowel), attached to a hardwood platform sitting on top of a minimally inflated bicycle tube. I know others have had success with similar devices, but in my system the roller bearings produced unacceptable brightness. I removed the bearings and the brightness disappeared.

I’m going to retain the air isolation and experiment with sandbags underneath and on top of the player.

Would I be better served to rest the bottom of the CDP directly on the sandbags, or to rest the existing four feet of the CDP on four sandbags?

BTW, “Try it both ways and see what you like best” is an obvious response, and in my situation not very helpful for the following reason. All of my components sit in a very heavy airmoire that is extremely difficult to move and rearrange shelves. Therefore, when I attempt this tweak, I want to start with the configuration that is most likely to sound the best, because it is a pain in the ass to move furniture, equipment and shelves to try it the other way.

Thanks.
