Like maybe a movable room divider? Have you seen what can be done with panels that simulate a screen, which you can move about to suit your room use and decor at will? Have you seen what has been done with using tube sound reflector/absorbers in continuous array (these look sculptural BTW)? Have you considered room lenses? All of these promise the potential for balancing out the room by variously closing off the sound penetration into the archway and provide some reflectance back into your listening position. Room lenses have a 4 way synergistic effect on sound waves, if placed correctly.My listening room has a large 4X6' window and an enlarged doorway arch to the left of my speaker, while a long room axis to the right to a live end, and through the doorway is my foyer/hallway system. It's not a dissimilar problem to yours. I realized that the effective room was the combination of the foyer/hall and the living room along its long axis, so working with that concept made balanced sound feasible. I found that DIY room lenses and Q&D bass trap worked to a great degree.
