John,I have tried that. In fact, when I do what you describe I get a ground loop hum, and can still get the "pop". I get the ground hum becasue the ground on my amps is floated - a fact I neglected to mention in my first e-mail. With all components plugged in and connected and volume all the way up, there is no noise - by far the quietest system I have ever had in my home. I have also lifted the ground on the amps, leaving only the preamp grounded, but of course this had no effect since the ground is floated. I appreciate your comments. I will post a follow-up if I isolate this problem.
