Scopes: two channel crt types are available on e-bay for under $100. You can spend more, of course. You can spend thosands, but I suggest you look for something a lot less initially. The biggest problem is being sure that anything you get from e-bay really functions. I've usually had good luck but not always.You could buy a signal generator the same way. However, look at a small battery operated unit currently available from B&K and a couple of others (they seem to differ only by the logo on the front) . It goes new for $50-$75 from several mail order and online stores. I've found it very useful.
