to play music, it works just fine. To do work on it, well, there was a reason it had been catching dust. To find an old PC laptop without fans that has built in networking and sound, you just have to do your homework on ebay.A laptop like this can be found on ebay for $150-200 in fully functional condition. All you need then is a Win2k server in the basement with 200GB of MP3's on a partition shared (as an apple file server volume in my case) with the laptop in the listening room. works great to browse the audioasylum while listening to high quality sources as well.
That apple fanless cube is just a boutique computer - something Apple has exploited for a long time now. Cute comes before function - their customers seem to go for that.
Now, the issue I have is that even high-end audio cards only have dinky mini plugs for output. I want a decent RCA connector on the computer, but it seems as if I have to build my own high-quality mini-stereo to RCA cable one day (since you can't buy such a thing)
