Re: little oval foam rings you put around tweeters...?

Being the usual tweeter radiates at 360*, it's more about the area around the tweeter on the soundboard, (front cabinet panel). The procedure not only quells the tweeter but also reduces the interaction of the mids or mid/bass. Depends on how close they are to each other and the material used to make the soundboard. The difference of 3/4" to 1" MDF is a big factor. Working with a old Cerwin Vega LS-12 cabinet, the spacing was tight and the MDF was only 3/4", this tweak was necessary.

I used two felts horizontal, per tweeter; the bottom felt is 6"and cantered to the left and the top felt is 4' cantered to the right. Both are football shape and offset to each other at 15 degrees. This doesn't have to be neat, in fact the more irregularities you have, the less peaks are created. I did extensive study before I acted on this. The effect is amazing, really cleans up the highs. The felts are dirt cheap and come in assorted colors.
