I have had the same experience with Steel Balls and drawer pulls. I have found using garden hose rubber washers glued to the bottom of the chassis minimizes "roll-away components". i.e. I use rubber cement to "center" the garden hose washer over the spoon-ball beneath the chassis. This lessens my frustration in keeping my CD/DVD player somewhat centered over the shelf it rests upon.
