Hi,
Thanks for the reassurance. I feel a little better now.
My first choice is WE 300B, but I have about $1000 in the things now, and am low on funds, so I am going to start with the JJ Tesla 300B . I can get a new pair at Antique Electronics Supply online for about $169.00 a pair.
They are sale priced through February. The Svetlanas are even cheaper. I have seen the at the tube store online for $159.00.
I have used Svetlana pp tubes before and really like them so I am in kind of a quandry over whether to try there SV300B. I have followed Derek Waltons guidelines from the beginning, so I will go with the JJ's, which was his first choice.
Derek kindly responded to my emails with questions during my building process and gave me the following updates on his JE Labs 300B's.
Derek states that:
The WE 300B tubes are worth the money in this amp, but the best change he ever made was the OPT's by Plitron.
He said please you have to hear these amps with the Plitron opt's in place of the Hammond.
I totally believe him, and will definatly upgrade in the future if I can fit them on my somewhat compact chassis's.
They are $360.00 a pair ,(American dollars), from the factory.
He said they extended and improved the bass performance of the amps to a remarkable degree, as well as improving the mids and upper registers.
