If this is a speaker project,
and you want a dense non resonate cabinet using available materials, go to the local lumber store and buy 3/4" sub-flooring particle board. Its denser than standard grade particle board and close to mdf. Buy 1/4" oak or mahoghany faced plywood. Build the box from the sub-flooring material, and veneer the outside using the 1/4" plywood. I joined the 2 woods with carpenters glue and strap clamps. Also allow extra room for internal bracing.
I built subwoofers this way for NHT 1259 12" drivers and had no problems. Very solid "knuckle rap" test. Sounded great.
It takes some planning and precise cutting to get the front face and corners to look good. I allowed 1/4" inch overhang on all sides of the box, and cut my oak veneer plywood fronts to make the box look like oak veneer on all 6 sides. I routed the oak fronts for the drivers. I used oak "quarter round" and a wood rasp to get a rounded corner look.
