Recently I replaced the thin fiberboard bottom panel of my AR ES-1 with a piece of 3/4 inch MDF. I'm not sure if it was the mass increase or the higher resistance to vibration, but, the things got quieter and cleaner. Better sound all around. If you have a turntable with a flimsy bottom panel try someting more substantial. It is about as easy and cheap a mod as you can get.
