Hi,
I have only used Cardas 33 guage litz wire to rewire a tonearm once. Sonic results with Cardas was a smoother top end, while retaining the detail.
I used silver bearing solder with no rosin core,(very fine guage), and a tube of rosin flux. One of the few usefull items available at the local Radio Shack IMO.
I used a fairly hot 40 watt iron, and dipped the wire ends into a "glob" of flux paste. I heated the wire end with the flux on it with my iron until the flux boiled completely off. It took 2 or 3 applications. The ends of the wires then "tinned" easily with a little silver solder and minimum heat application.
May be a little tougher with higher guages, but I would try it.
