I have always used Cinch-Jones connectors for power supply harnesses, which are a rugged, polarized plug-and-socket system available in a wide variety of styles (panel mount, cable mount) and pin configurations. Newark and Allied carry Cinch-Jones, but unfortunately not Digi-Key.For anything up to about 5A or so you can use 20AWG wire. A multi-conductor twisted-pair jacketed cable is good, shielded (with the shield connected to ground at the power supply end only) is better.
