Since one of the key goals of isolation/damping is to prevent sound vibrations from the environment getting into the equipment, why not place the equipment in a soundproof enclosure (a fan might be necessary for air circulation of course, but there are very quiet ones available)? Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to create a rack with foam insulation coating the inside and seal the openings so that there would be very little sound energy from the environment able to get inside. You could use extra thick plexiglas to make it viewable from the front. Wouldn't it be better to prevent the sound waves from getting to any part of the component rather than trying to drain them away? Is this just too impractical or am I missing something here?
