I got to visit Ganymede's site after reading the review in Stereotimes.The increased lateral motion allowed by the design sounds like a good idea to me. This was one of my main design considerations in my Hip Joints.
The wider "bowl" effectively lowers the resonance frequency (a good thing) and diminishes damping (also a good thing). Both of these will allow for a steeper roll-off above resonance, translating into greater isolation than designs with smaller bowls and less motion.
