I will have a window of opportunity to make some speakers for a friend later on this summer and she has requested something under $500. She has listened to a zillion commercial speakers but hasn't given me a real clear direction....
Her all time favorite is the old Electra series (whatever the biggest one was). Another notable favorite is the Audio Physic Tempo. She also likes my Vifa P17WJ/D25AG-35 TM's (crossovers by Dennis Murphy) for the money but I told her she can do better.
So I am thinking of copying the Tempo's TMM slanted profile and using either the Vifa XT25 or the Focal TC90Tdx. Pair them with maybe the Peerless 850122 (CSX). Sealed will get them down to almost 60Hz and she already has a sub.
Any opinions?
