Help - Rotel 855 and blue tack tweak

4.41.59.47

I have a vintage Rotel RCD-855 that I'm using for a second system and wanted to try the blue tack tweak. However, I'm not sure if I've found the crystal. There is a silver "can" that's about 5/8" tall, 7/16" wide, and 1/8" thick sticking up from the pcb. It's oval when viewed from the top and near one of the larger chips. Is this the crystal? It's not very imposing.

I wanted to check before doing anything. I just envelope this in blue tack, right? About how thick should the blue tack be around the crystal? Also, there is a resistor right at the base of this can. No blue tack could be applied near the base without touching or covering this resistor. Since the blue tack is non-conductive, it doesn't seem like it would hurt to cover it, but then again, I'm a novice and didn't want to blow up the old Rotel. I'm rather fond of it.

Thanks for any help.
