need help with selector switch hookup for passive "pre"

155.100.250.160

I am playing around with a simple and CHEAP passive preamp setup and as always I have a dumb question to ask (thank god there is not way to get electrocuted doing this one). I have a 20k alps pot, but the selector switch is the issue. I have one i got at radioshack yesterday (I said cheap, remember) that is a 2 pole 6 pos. thing, and I can't figure out how to hook it up to try it out. It has 12 tabs around the perimeter and two in the middle (I assume output), so how do I know what I hook up where and what about the grounds?

I also have a rather beefy selector switch from an older pioneer receiver (the good ones made before I was born), and it has seven inputs (7 sets of RCAs on the back anyway) and a whole lotta solder tabs.

For my little experiment which of these would most likely yield better results and how do I use it? If neither is usable, is there a cheap alternative? This is my first attempt at anything other than crossovers and I ahve minimal knowledge, so thanks for your help and patience.
