L-pads are basiclly made of a length of wound wire with a wiper (actually 2 per Lpad 1 for series and 1 for parallel conn.) as the resistance adjustable connection. They can over time corrode, become dirty such as volume pots, and provide a very small contact surface between the wiper and the wire. It may be possible to use them without a problem but I simply find fixed resistors overall to be more reliable.Sparkie
