I would think that their lightning kit would
be wise. Its more of a static charge problem
which can destroy the chip inside real quick.
Their is a lot of static in the air during a
storm and the lightning does not have to hit
it directly. I remember an old science trick
where you connect a neon bulb to a long wire
on the ground, and you can see it blink with
a distant lightning storm. It really works.
A serge protector for the equipment is enough
because if you got a direct hit, you will have
more important problems to deal with. :)
