I have used a number of Harmonix products, mosly their adhesive dots and bases. They are powerful medicine. In many cases, I simply couldn't contemplate removing them, they improve the sound so much. In one case (a Sony DVD player) they improved some things but made other things worse. Anyway, even that proves they do something! Place them carefully. My experience is to put them at the mechanical nodes of a component (ie where the physical displacement of the vibrating element is minimum). This means in corners and over comonent feet etc. This is a little counter-intuitive, but it seems to be where they function best.
