I have found that the Black diamonds almost universally help. So it is unusual. Definitely the way to go is flat side against bottom of unit.This would make me suspicious about the integrity of the bricks/carpet arangement. Definitely try the p300 on a different support and see if that improves it.
I had one case where having an amp sitting on its faceplate on the carpet was sonically superior to being on an MDF shelf! So you never know what works best!
