orpheus, i used a cheap rat-shack 40w soldering iron, & their cheap desoldering iron w/built-in bulb to do all the mods to my di/o successfully. well, i take that back - the soldering iron broke internally (it really *is* cheap), so i went back to the shack, & got one w/a 20w/40w switch. still a cheap thing, but it works! ;~) i use the rat-shack fine-gauge lead-free silver solder (4%). even angela electronics, where i got some riken-ohm resistors for the di/o, recommends this solder...i'd done a nominal amount of soldering before, but this was the 1st time i've ever tried a desoldering tool - it works like a charm, highly recommended. i had to get a second tip for it towards the end of my di/o mods.
