Greg,Don't worry! I think I have an answer...
I have a McIntosh MX110 tubed Tuner Preamplifier from 1962 that has been COMPLETELY rebuilt using top quality parts and then some (more on this if you're interested)...
Anyhow, I have the same problem you're referring to not with my "Aux"/CD/Line Stage, but with my Phono Stage. Here's the deal - When I have the FM Antenna "Plugged" in (actually, it uses spades with a pair of screws), and turn up the Phono Stage volume to Max, I can hear the FM Signal coming through ever so slightly... When I disconnect the FM Antenna Spades from the unit, the FM noise is gone!
Here is my proposed plan for my OWN Tuner Preamp. Maybe you TOO can try this at home. Here goes...
I have been thinking of installing a small toggle switch at the point of the FM Antenna entry/connection. I know a switch can and will degrade the sound to some extent, but this may be neglegiable enough! I am MUCH more concerned with the sound of my Phono Stage than with the FM Stereo. Installing this switch will hopefully allow me to "disconnect" the Antenna (and hence the noise) when I wish to listen to the Phono Stage. I may in fact leave the switch in the "off" position most of the time anyhow. I know the noise is there right now, but it is a pain to screw and unscrew the antenna leads each time I want to listen to my Turntable. Therefore, for convenience sake, I plan to install this simple toggle switch. Maybe you can do the same.
I Hope this helps... Please let me know!
Do you think this is a good or bad idea? Do you think it is plausible? I haven't tried it out yet but it is on my list and seems simple enough... Whaddya think?
Sincerely yours,
Brian M
