Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I posted this late yesterday evening at harmonic discord but thought it worth sharing with the Asylum.-------
As I sit here and type this I am still amazed at how much difference the components make in the AKSA. Let me digress before I explain.
My AKSA has been alive now for over a month and I felt that on balance the sound was good. Over time a feeling started to gnaw at me that maybe the sound was not as right as it could be.
Understand that I had tweaked just about all that could be tweaked during initial construction. So, I wondered was my initial build defective in some way. Several sessions at the test bench convinced me otherwise as the voltages and offsets were all in order.
Hmm! Well on the off chance that there could be little harm, I decided a part swap was in order. Out came the parts boxes, what could be used? Aha! - there they are; two unused capacitors just right for the infamous "charge suckout" position aka C8.
I fired up the desolder gun and warmed the soldering iron. With the original caps removed, in went the replacements. The chassis was rebolted; ground wires restrung; and power taps applied.
With a "will this work" the little AKSA returned to its berth. Power was applied; a CD was set. The builder returned to the listening chair and the play button was hit.
Wow! Music, Music, Music! Stunning Music! I won't bore all with the complete play list except the last. Ms. Eva Cassidy was in my room this night, her voice like I have never heard it before!
Well you ask what was the change? - one Signature InfiniCap for one Auricap. Who would have known or guessed? Hugh's AKSA is one very sensitive and revealing amplifier.
Hat's off Hugh! This amp gets better and better!
