Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I am interested in comments/recommendations from those more experienced and knowledgeable than I regarding zobels. I use a Classe DR25 (250wpc) to drive Alon V MkII+ speakers. Although not a new amp, the DR25 was a very nice upgrade for me and significantly improved the midrange on the Alon's. The Alon's are tri-wired with DH labs Q10 to LF and mids, and Q14 to HF.For curiosity, to see if highs would become smoother, I would like to try Enacoms across my HF speaker terminals. However, when I was recently inside the amp to replace the large nut binding posts with Cardas 5-ways, I noticed there are zobels on the outputs of the amp. The dealer said this would not be a problem, but I read in posts here that using a zobel at the speaker may not be a good idea when there is already a zobel at the amp. I am assuming the Enacom is a type of zobel (although I was told there is no resistor). Would this be a problem to the amp or speakers for me to try the Enacoms? If this tweak is not a problem, would I be better off building a zobel for the tweeter myself than using the Enacom?
Finally, does anyone think I would notice a worthwhile improvement in the sound by upgrading the existing capacitors in the amp output zobel? I will have to get back into the amp to check type and size of capacitors used by the mfg.
Thanks for your help. Any constructive comments would be appreciated.
Tim
