Hi MBK,
You could place the first pole of the filter in the IV converter like Walt Jung & Hampton Childress did , described in the Pooge Chronicles of the Audio Amateur. This way you can have a 3-pole low pass filter with only two opamps in the signal path.
The cap in the first pole is more than adequate as compensation capacitor.
I tried a 20 kHz crossover point first, but did find that the filter will not smooth the staircase of the signal very much.
