Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

Hey, Dan,

166.122.60.202

1. There are four of them in there.

2. The existing NE5532's are soldered in. The easiest way to unsolder them is to cut the legs of the wee beasties off with small nippers, then unsolder 'em one by one while holding them from the component side with tweezers or a 'stat. You are obviously not going to save the 5532's this way, but WTF, they're a 25¢ part. I got a nice machined-contact gold-plated socket to put the new amps in. Some folks say that a good solder job is the best contact, but you need to heat sink them really well so you don't toast them; a dedicated IC heatsink is the reliable way. I used the sockets so I could get them back out and tweak on if I wanted to.

3. No. I haven't done my Micro2 yet; all this methodology I learned replacing the 5532's on my Nak with AD827's. I'll try the OPA's now that you've told me about them. Thanks.

4. Thanx to jondoh below for pointing us at TI. I bet some of the regular vendors have them too; maybe Michael Percy. These things are usually dirt cheap.

I would be interested to hear your experiences with this, and any other POOGEing you've done with your stage; I like mine a lot.

Poinz
