Much benefit of replacing ancient capacitors in cdp?

My cdp is a circa '85 dbx DX3 that has an excellent close-to-analog sound. Its integral dbx processing (expansion/compression, dynamics and separation enhancement) are effectively irreplaceable since dbx left the consumer market, so I'm eager to keep it alive.

I've read much about replacing old capacitors to improve sound, but I'm not eager to get into major surgery unless it will make a significant improvement. I don't know what type caps are installed (dbx used quality components), but they're 17 years old with thousands of hours of use.

Is old capacitor replacement something I should seriously consider, or is it a tweak that will give only marginally audible results.

System: Parasound DR65 Receiver as pre-amp (yeah, yeah, I know), Parasound HCA-1500II amp, and Vandy 3A's.
