Q: years back, didn't a hi fi mag of sorts do a totally blind test of components like mccormack DNA vs $35k mark levinson, and a similar test with a pioneer component [amp?] vs highend?
I remember seeing this, and the results really made the expensive gear differences seem nil.
I do not know how the test was conducted, but I'd love to see [never happen] a test like so:
Reference quality speakers driven by adequate, but inexpensive amp...like say $2k.
The audience is told [and shown] what seems to be a $34k mark Levinson driving them, when in reality it's the $2k amp. I wonder if this has been done, and how it influences [if at all] the results.
1) response one: well, that doesn't sound like a $34k amp
2) Sounds wonderful
3) Sounds lousy
4) ?
