You're dealing with 2 things.

First, the room itself will boost the sound at some frequencies and reduce it at others based on the dimensions of the room. These problems occur under about 300 Hz in every room and are made worse if two - or heaven forbid, three - of the room dimensions are identical or multiples of each other.

Second, speaker placement and in particular the distance between woofer centre and floor, adjacent walls, and to a lesser extent ceiling, can also result in cancellations (suckouts) in the same frequency range. These also are made worse when 2 or more of these distances are identical. They may act to exaggerate or reduce the anomalies caused by room dimensions which is why people pay so much attention to speaker placement.
