I did this tweak about a year ago, and with my speakers (Linn Tukans actively biamped) it made little to no difference for me. I suspect that mileage on this tweak varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but more importantly how low your speakers are designed to go. In my case, I let the Tukans "roll off" naturally and added in a small REL subwoofer.
