Re: ATTN bobwire: If you have a moment

There's a lot of information on the DVD 709 discussion forum (www.709online.com). Go to the discussion forum, technophobia section and browse, you'll find lots of info about which CRS's work and which don't.

It appears that, even with CDR's which are reported to work, different people seem to get different results. It's not clear if there is variablity between 709 units, or if it just reflects the myriad of CD burners and software which people are using to burn the disks. Bottom line, don't buy a large quantity of CDR's until you verify that they will work in your particular system.

The two current CDR's du jour appear to be made by Princo (often available at computer shows in the US) and a brand called vivastar from England. I've had total failure with disks from Memorex, Verbatim, and TDK, all of which work well in several other of my CDP's.

I've tried the Princo ones with variable success. some work flawlessly and some work partially and some work and then stop working. Best advice is to try some. Start by burning at 1X and work your way up until they stop working. Using Nero, I've not gotten any Princo's burned at faster than 2X to work. Disks burned in my old 2X Memorex drive seem to work more often than disks burned (at 1x) in my 12X Plextor, but YMMV.
