If they are unwilling to be nice and discuss noise levels like adults, you should NOT worry about disturbing them. Sounds like you're very reasonable about it (headphones? I never used them in my apt, even at 3am) If you are disturbed by their noise levels, and they're unwilling to talk about it (techno 2 days straight-sounds like they want a rumble) and it keeps you up at night tell them so, and if it continues, just tell the landlord, then if that accomplishes nothing, call the oink squad. Don't take their meanness (sp? a few too many tonight) and don't worry about their feelings. You seem like a more considerate neighbor than any I've had (a couple years ago, my downstairs neighbors had a digiridoo (sp?) that those psychos would play at 7am on a saturday-I'd be hitting the sack, and 2 hrs later have bass at like 20Hz jiggling my booze filled belly.....
