Re: Thnx Thorsten - a couple more questions

Hi,

All Electrolytic Caps can TECHNICALLY be replaced by suitable Film Capacitors, but large Value Film Cap's are HUGE, so are unlikely to fit mechanically. Normally you cannot replace Film Cap's with Polarised Electrolytic Caps, though some special cases apply (like PSU) where this would possible (but a downgrade sonically) if polarity is observed.

Yes, it would but not much. The whole issue is complex. In some cases reducing the Cathode Bypass Cap value on the Output Stage of an SE can extend the low level LF Response at the expense LF power for example, a trade I find subjectively quite good sounding. Also, without at least trcing the circuit you cannot really know which capacitor is which.

I personally use Arcotronic (industrial) Foil & Film units for coupling (or fancy Tinfoil units) and Ansar Supersound Polypropylen (metalised) Capacitors for the Powersupply. They ar easy to get in the UK, less so in the US, sorry.
