I wanted to add Pre out and Main in on my Audio Analogue Puccini SE MkI amp to be able to add a second amp and an electronic x-over, and my AA dealer looked at this possibiliy. He said it was possible, and I gave it a try. I sacrificed the tape in/out RCAs.It came back very nice, with new printed letters of Pre out and Main in instead of the tape loop (which I did not use anyway). The sound is identical as that before the mod. The material cost was about $5, and with work it ended at about $140. A Rotel amp was bought to drive the bass section.
So if you own a Puccini or Puccini SE and want to upgrade for more power or allow for the possibility to add active x-overs or other processors, adding a pre out/ main in may be a cheaper solution than to buy a completely new amp.
