DIY room lens stability

Hi... I am in the process of building some room lens - noticed that various folks have constructed bases with wood, poured castings of whatever, plastic clamps etc.

I was wondering, if adding some lead shot to the base of the tube (just fill inside with a few inches of) would have any negative effects - I'm thinking it might be an easy way to add some mass to the base and thus lower the construction's center of gravity (and thus help the anti-tip factor).

Tx,
S
