Re: Final follow-up on TDA1541 pin4 tweak

199.43.13.1

Hi Alan,

I have not yet been able to compare with other un-modified expensive CDPs.

I think that the Rotel will tend to outperform across the frequency spectrum. Highs are clear, defined, mids are forward in the mix and bass is tight, although still shows traces of boom on some pieces-maybe just the room.

The CDP produces good left-right imaging, but I still believe that the depth/layering can be improved, based on experiences with a cheap Marantz CD52 MKII. So still not entirely happy, but I think I am close.

I may revisit the pin 4 tweak once I've installed a suitable post IV conversion filter as seen on the TNT convertus (www.tnt-audio.com)

Also I believe that the implentation of the "pete goudreau triplet" may lower the noise floor further.

I think that we are in marginal return territory and the time has come to put the lid back on! I know there are other tweaks that can improve the sound quality, but I am not sure that they are without significant risk to the CDP-e.g. increasing size of the decoupling cap on the TDA8808-good tweak, but significantly increases heat dissipation on the surface mounted chip-cannot be good!

Ryan
