Hi,
I had laying around the AD9696 and tried it in my clock resulting in better sound.
I found the AD9696 to be obsolete and successor the AD8561 being available from Newark. Both are faster than the LT1016.
LT has also a newer faster type, the LT1394 but only as a SMD crumb.
