my equipment sits on a three-part furniture system. There is a long bench-like cabinet in the middle made of solid oak, then two smaller two-level cabiinets on the ends. On the long one sit my preamp, turntable, and cd system, on the smaller two-level ones are my two amps for each channel. Anyways, since all that is useless information, On top of the oak (1 inch thick) I have laid first a sheet of ice/water roofing shield ("bitchathing" in the industry), and on top of that a felt pad, then 1/2" marble slabs on the felt. They're incredibly solid, and the mrable has really tightened up the bass and overall imaging. The felt and roofing shield eliminate resonance in the wood very nicely and keep the marble from becoming too much of a conductor. It took me a long time to get this set up just right, but it has been wonderful.
