yeah, it all sounds good in theory..
one thing I would emphasise, is that you're probably better off moving towards that sort of system slowly, and one step at a time..
I've now got a system with an active sub, and monitors, and the only shop bought components are the CD player, the main power amp, a tuner (cost $10) and a single RCA lead.. the rest is all homemade...
RCA cables x 2
speakers x 2
speaker cables x 4 (bi-wired)
sub x 1
sub active crossover kit x 1
sub amp kit x 1
speaker stands x 2
equipment stand x 1
passive preamp x 1now I couldn't have gotten that off the ground (especially the sub, speakers and preamp, which are 100% my own designs) if I was doing each component simultaneously.. I would have had no idea what was doing what..
the entire process of building that system has taken about 5 and a half years... but it's been SO MUCH FUN!!!good luck, and enjoy it :)
