I cut my holes with a sabre saw/skill saw.As for further refinements, use the search function, and search for "room lens". There are several different variations and options on how to build, including using plumbimg/gas pipe clamps top hold them together, and elbows and such as feet instead of a wooden base (this approach tends to ignore the very slight amount of bass damping they provide, but it is not a great loss, and they do function primarily as diffusors.)
Then there is the noodle version, and so on.Jon Risch
