Hi from a newbie in Australia.I'm looking at buying a used Velodyne F1800RII 240V here in Australia. I tested the sub today and could hear a low level hum that was unfortunately obvious from the listening position (a common problem with this model??). I don't know if the sub has been abused. I didn't notice anything wrong when music/movies were played at very high volume. No hum can be heard when the sub level is set to minimum. Anything higher and the hum can be heard. I'm thinking of testing the sub with a cheat plug. I don't know if the plugs are available (i.e. legal) in Australia.
1. Can anyone advise how to make one if it isn't available here? Do I simply disconnect the ground/earth pin from a 3-pin plug or is it more complicated?
2. I've read cheat plugs are OK if a component interconnect meets with a component that is grounded. True or false?
Please help as I must give the seller my yes or no answer within the next 2-3 days. I'll test it again then.
regards,
Avy
