There is too much contact area with the housing. DIYumas should only have two points on the sphere (ideally) touching anything. I much prefer spoon based designs to the knobs myself, as the knobs are too soft and don't move as freely. The spoons really float the component well, and offer a lower contact area than the knobs, due to the harder less concave surface.
